comments on the draft Energy Master Plan on Tuesday,
July 15, at the State House Annex in Trenton included a call
for more aggressive goals for energy efficiency and renewable
energy and strong green building codes.
NJ
has joined 13 other states in challenging revised ground-level
ozone standards set by the EPA. In this action 14 states
join such groups as The American Lung Association, Natural Resources
Defense Council, Environmental Defense Fund, National Park Conservation
Association and the Appalachian Mountain Club in opposing
the EPA's recent decision to set the allowable ozone standard
at higher levels than those recommended by the EPA's Clean Air
Scientific Advisory Committee.

Corzine released a draft
Energy Master Plan in April, which is proposed as a
"road map to guide us toward a future with adequate, reliable
energy supplies that are both environmentally responsible and
competitively priced." Public comments on the draft may
be submitted by e-mail or verbally at public hearings expected
to be held in July.

Comments were accepted until March 20, 2008, on the DRAFT- Greenhouse
Gas Inventory and Reference Case Projections report.

Signs Global Warming Response Act
July 6, 2007 - On the eve of the Live Earth Concerts for a Climate
in Crisis Governor Jon S. Corzine signed
legislation adopting proactive and ambitious goals for the reduction
of green house gas emissions in New Jersey. The legislation
calls for reducing greenhouse gas emissions to 1990 levels by
2020, approximately a 20 percent reduction, followed by a further
reduction of emissions to 80 percent below 2006 levels by 2050.
New Jersey is only the third state in the nation to make greenhouse
gas reduction goals law and these provisions were previously
set in Executive Order 54 which the Governor signed in February.

Offers Municipalities ENERGY STAR Web Training
EPA will hold a series of web trainings for local governments
on the ENERGY
STAR Challenge, a national call-to-action to improve the
energy efficiency of America's commercial and industrial buildings
by 10 percent or more. Local governments that partner with EPA
and take the ENERGY STAR Challenge demonstrate their commitment
to taxpayers as well as the environment. Web site includes schedule
of available trainings and registration information.

The Enterprise Foundation is offering grants
to Green Communities to help cover the costs of planning
and implementing green components of affordable housing developments,
as well as tracking their costs and benefits
