Municipal Environmental Specialist
The Association of New Jersey Environmental Commissions (ANJEC) is seeking a bright, energetic Municipal Environmental Specialist to join our passionate and dedicated team. ANJEC is a 47 year-young private non-profit whose mission is to achieve responsible and sustainable use of New Jersey’s natural resources and protection of environmental health. ANJEC is a statewide organization that provides leadership, education, and support for environmental commissions, other local boards, and public officials. We also partner with organizations to advocate for strong state and regional environmental policy.
The Municipal Environmental Specialist positon is a new position at ANJEC. The primary responsibility is to provide constituent services for environmental commissioners with issues ranging from site plan application and stormwater management plan review, ordinance development, and open space stewardship. This position is also responsible for helping to advance ANJEC’s mission by educating, inspiring, and mobilizing environmental commissions on pressing environmental issues facing New Jersey including climate change, water supply and quality, and environmental justice.
ANJEC is seeking a part-time energetic professional for 20 hours/week. Excellent people skills, flexible scheduling, sense of humor, ability to work well in a team, and passion for the environment are must haves. Computer literacy and strong writing skills are a must. Experience and ability to conduct research, effectively use social media, and public speaking skills/willingness are necessary. Experience serving or working with municipal government and/or planning, existing relationships with other New Jersey non-profits, and/or knowledge of urban environmental issues a plus.
A bachelor’s degree in the environmental field, communications, or planning with relevant volunteer or work experience preferred. This is a 20 hour/week hourly position with opportunity for growth. The position is located in ANJEC’s Mendham office. Flexible scheduling and telecommuting arrangements can be arranged for a portion of the work hours.
